Their Royal Highnesses The Prince and Princess of Wales visited Atherstone on 27th June 1985 during the year of The Festival of Atherstone. There is a plaque that commemorates there visit outside of St Marys church at the top of the Market Square.

The royal couple also visited a number of other places in Atherstone including the then newly built Holly Lane Industrial Estate.

Warwick House, which resides on Ratcliffe Street where it meets Long Stree,t was built due to the expected Royal visit replacing the unsightly buildings that used to exist on the site.
