Atherstone Hall was built in 1720 by Abraham Bracebridge.
The hall was finally demolished in 1963 and a housing estate built upon its land.
Chapel House
Chapel House was built in 1728 as the dower house to Atherstone Hall.
A dower house is usually a moderately large house on an estate which is occupied by the widow of the late owner. The widow, often known as the “dowager” usually moves into the dower house, from the larger family house, on the death of her husband, the new heir occupies the now vacated principal house.
In modern times Chapel House is a high quality small hotel and restaurant. It can be found on Friars Gate, in the upper right hand corner of the Market Square.
The buildings conversion into a modern setting was well executed with many original features remaining and others carefully restored.

Hi all, I want to know if anyone has any photographs of Atherstone Hall, I remember it vaguely as a child when my family moved into Windmill road when the first few dwellings had been completed.
Most of the houses were still being built at the time – around 1962-63. Anyway I just thought I’d ask, if somebody can help me then please contact me at waynelearoyd@hotmail.com

I would like to know what it was being used for in and around 1891. One great aunt is listed as a scholar, the other as ‘training for a servant’. As the rest of the family were in London, what were they doing there?
